On their debut album, Gilgamesh picks up the heritage of the great Mesopotamian civilisation, vanished since millennia. Named after the Sumerian godlike King from the eponymous heroic epic, they open a new chapter of Oriental extreme music: In a world where society is submitted to the vengeful Gods, The Awakening addresses epic, myths and occultism from a bygone era. The 8 songs lead the listener into legendary battles, obscure ceremonies and mystical cults of gods. Driven by blastbeat-oriented drums, they build a bridge between pounding Death Metal and melodic Black Metal. Gloomy riffs encounter an epic roar. Filled with oriental elements, Gilgamesh’s music introduces the listener to a multi-faceted blackened Death Metal. The album’s sound comes from the Woodshedstudios of V. Santura (Triptykon, Dark Fortress) and blends together the limits of both genres. Fans of Keep of Kalessin, Behemoth and Hate will get their money’s worth with this newcomer.
Deutsch:

Holy unholy shitballs this is an oriental death metal masterpiece! I only discovered it just now while checking their upcoming 2020 new album Al Qassam through AMG. Checking out the rest of their discography was really worth it. Killer album. hatbanger_ollie
This is the way their 2020 album 'Martyrs Of The Storm' should have sounded. Great diverse death metal which should appeal to you if you like Ade and Ex Deo and could do without Romans and Latin and add some Pharaos and Egyptian instead. Maat offer a certain similarity to Scarab as well. Or think Nile without the overwhelming technicality if you can do that 😉 mourner
Totally epic as always! I love that these guys have the self confidence & assurance to slow BM right down instead of having incessant blast beats throughout a song. Blast beats certainly have their place & are great - just not all the time as is far too common these days! And those vocals are simply divine! Great music & I highly recommend as well as the rest of their discography!!! bmurator
